The Syrian and Russian air forces unleashed a fury of airstrikes over the Deir Ezzor Governorate today, killing and wounding a large number of Islamic State terrorists between the provincial capital and Al-Mayadeen city.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, Syrian and Russian jets began their aerial assault today by launching nonstop airstrikes over the Al-Mayadeen Oil Fields, causing large fires and explosions as a result of their bombs.

Following the airstrikes on the Al-Mayadeen Oil Fields, the Russian and Syrian air forces began attacking the Islamic State’s positions west of the provincial capital, hitting several targets at the Shoula Oil Field

The Russian and Syrian air forces would not stop there, they would also launch airstrikes around the town of Mohassan, forcing the Islamic State to halt their oil transport along the Deir Ezzor-Raqqa Highway.

These airstrikes today are in retaliation for the Islamic State’s destruction of the Hayyan Gas Company, which supplied millions of Syrians with gas during these frigid months.
